(1) Preface - History is not made up of dates and events only rather, it is made of those characters, who are the pride of that period. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was one such warrior or commander of the national freedom struggle, which we are proud of. Everyone accepts the iron of his strength, perseverance, determination and efficiency. Only then he was born in a simple farmer family of Gujarat, after studying in village school, working in the fields and adopting the profession of advocacy, he reached the post of first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. After the success of Vardoli Satyagraha, when Mahatma Gandhi called him 'Sardar', the whole country started calling him by this name.
(2) Biography Vallabhbhai Patel was born on October 31, 1875
in a large farming family in a village called Karamsad in Borsad tehsil of
Gujarat. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's life had gone through many situations. He
started his studies from the village school. From Karamsad he went to Patelad,
where he completed his primary education. He was 22 years old at the time of
matriculation. This shows how long they have studied. started. In August 1910,
he left for Vilayat. In 1913, he came to India as a barrister and started his
practice in Ahmedabad. Soon he was counted among the renowned barristers of
Ahmedabad.
(3) Kheda Satyagraha - Vallabhbhai came in contact with Gandhiji through Kheda Satyagraha. The success and diligence of Kheda Satyagraha brought Vallabhbhai Patel to the front line as a strong leader of Gujarat. In the Kheda district of Gujarat in the year 1918, due to heavy rains, all the crops were ruined. According to the law of that time, there was a rule to waive half the rent on the loss of two-thirds of the crop and the full rent on 75 percent of the crop. Therefore, the farmers applied for waiver of rent to the government. At that time Mohanlal Pandya and Shankarlal Parikh two leaders were active among the farmers in Kheda. There was a strange awakening among the farmers of Kheda. Gandhiji gave it the form of Satyagraha and declared - "It is injustice if the government imposes pressure on the government even if there is no production. It is not a thing to believe that thousands of people should speak for saving one year by postponing the rent. If the government says so, it is an insult to us. Therefore, my advice is that if the government does not accept our demand, then we should tell the government that we will not pay the rent and we are ready to bear the hardships we will have to bear for this." After the Kheda Satyagraha, in the true sense. Vallabhbhai came out as Kundan.
(4) Wardoli Satyagraha Wardoli is a major K Tehsil in Surat
district of Gujarat. This tehsil is fully fertile spread over 20 square miles
and the farmers here are famous for their prosperity in Gujarat. In 1928, the
British government announced a 30 percent increase in rent on the farmers here.
Earlier, the farmers of Gujarat had been badly hit by the floods. For the
farmers here who were actually being unable to pay the rent, this tax increase
became a curse.
Vallabhbhai was engaged in the service of the people
affected by the horrific floods in many parts of Gujarat in those days. At such
a time when the delegation of the victims of Vardoli reached him, he first
advised them to prepare the details of the concerned case. After this, when he
came to the conclusion that the problems of the farmers of Vardoli are as
complex as the farmers of Kheda and that the British government has also come
down on injustice, then he reached Vardoli on 4th February, 1928 and declared a
satyagraha against tax collection. Gave. Vallabhbhai started Satyagraha from
Vardoli. But it also expanded in the parts of Bankaner, Varad, Bad, Kutma,
Barol, Kadot etc.
In Vardoli, Vallabhbhai organized the
farmers and boycott of the British Government was celebrated as Vardoli-Day on
12th June, 1928. The people of Vardoli observed a fast for twenty four hours.
Public meetings were held on that day all over the country and money was
collected, so that the suffering people could be helped here. On the one hand
the oppression of the government was increasing and on the other hand the
resolve of the farmers and victims of Vardoli was getting firmer. In the end
the British government had to bow down.
(5) Deputy Prime Minister - In the midnight of August 15, 1947, when the new government of the country was sworn in under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel became the Deputy Prime Minister at that time. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had a dream along with the independence of the country to make India a great nation by merging the princely states. Till August 15, 1947, there were only three states that did not join the Indian Union – Hyderabad, Jammu and Kashmir and Junagadh. The matter of these three was also settled completely, some peace, some unrest and merger of countries and states according to the policy.
(6) Epilogue - Two lines of poet Dinkar are often remembered the greatest is the man who works for the rest of his life. Big is the soul that comes out of the body without crying. How accurate are these lines about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. From childhood to youth and from youth to old age, he never got any rest. Where is the rest for a warrior who believes in Karma? Sardar ji was brave in true sense. Sardarji left this world in the year 1950. In this way, he could get only three years for the Navnirman of India, but for this he devoted every single moment of his life.
