(1) Preface The person who gave direction and momentum to the society is a great man are called. The name of Raja Rammohun Roy is particularly noteworthy among such great men. Raja Rammohun Roy was the creator of the ideological revolution that gave birth to modern India. He found this country trapped in a medieval quagmire and breathed such a life into it that only the current of Indian thought and life changed. The 'Brahma Samaj' established by Raja Rammohan Roy occupies a leading position in various religious and social movements run to end religious stereotypes, superstitions and social evils. Through thoughts and actions, this society has given a new direction to Indian social life

(2) Biography - Raja Ram Mohan Roy was born on May 22, 1772 in Radhanagar village of Hooghly district of Bengal. His great paternal grandfather, Krishna Chandra Banerjee, held a high position in the Nawab of Bengal. Impressed by his services, the Nawab honored him with the title of 'Raraya'. Later its abbreviated form 'Rai' was associated with this family and it replaced their caste discrimination Banerjee. Raja Rammohan Roy was the son of Tarani Devi. His family was decent, pious and godly. But Rammohun Roy did not get the religious rites of Vaishnava devotion that the family had expected. In his view his father was too traditionalist. His father was an idolater. But he was vehemently opposed to it. Ram Mohan Roy, a strong supporter of free thought and expression, used to give clear expression to his ideas. As a result, he started having a rift with his father. To avoid this situation, he thought it more appropriate to leave the house.           

Raja Rammohun Roy was rich in talent since childhood. His father had made the best arrangements for education for his son. At the age of fifteen, he acquired sufficient knowledge of Bengali, Persian, Arabic, Hindi and Sanskrit. He started the study of English language at the age of 24 and by the age of 40, he acquired mastery over this language as well. In order to study Christian literature, he also began to learn He, Latin and Greek.

In 1810, he started work as an ordinary clerk in Rangpur under the East India Company. On the strength of his talent, he got Rangpur the position of Diwan in the Collectorate. But getting a job was not his aim, so in 1814 he left his job and started living in Calcutta for the purpose of religious upliftment and truth purification.

(3) Sahitya Seva By the year 1818, he published his explanation in relation to many Sanskrit texts. In the year 1820-21, he published his interpretations on several Christian theology books. He brought out two papers 'Samvad Kaumudi' in Bengali and 'Miraj-ul Akhbar' in Persian, in which articles on literary, historical, political and scientific subjects were published. In 1818, he started a movement for the abolition of Sati Pratha. In 1829, he wrote a book on the practice of Sati. As a result of his campaign and movement, the then Governor General Lai William Bentinck declared the practice of Sati illegal under Regulation 17.

 (4) Establishment of Brahmo Samaj In the year 1828, Raja Rammohan Roy founded 'Ba Samaj' which was his important achievement. Although he lived for only four years after the establishment of Brahmo Samaj, the ideas of Brahmo Samaj gradually spread far and wide outside Bengal and he created an atmosphere of liberalism, rationalism and modernity which revolutionized Indian thought. Raja Rammohun Roy left for England on 15 November 1830 by sea route. On reaching England, he was warmly received by the British Emperor.
