letters in the history of the country's democracy, when a leader of the
minority community got the opportunity to become the Prime Minister. During the
last five years, under the leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the country made
multi-faceted progress. Took full care of the needs of the public and gained
popularity.

(3) As the Finance Minister, soft-spoken and courteous Dr.
Manmohan Singh took over as the country's finance minister at a time when the
balance of payments crisis was at its peak and the country was on the verge of
bankruptcy in relation to its external payments. But Dr. Manmohan Singh changed
the economic condition of the country with his policies. In the Narasimha Rao
government from 1991 to 1996, Dr. Manmohan Singh, as the Finance Minister,
liberated the economy from bureaucracy and license raj and the rate of economic
growth. Dr. Manmohan Singh remained very popular in the industry due to his
economic policies.
(4) As Prime Minister on Saturday evening, President APJAbdul Kalam administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Prime Minister
and other ministers in a simple but dignified ceremony at Ashoka Hall. As soon
as Dr. Manmohan Singh was sworn in as the 14th Prime Minister of the country,
celebrations started at various places in the country. People lit fireworks and
bottled to express their happiness. After being away from power for nine years,
the party went astray when the Congress government was formed at the Centre.

(6) Epilogue - Certainly it is a matter of greatest pride
for Indian democracy that for the first time in history, a person from minority
community was given the opportunity to occupy the post of Prime Minister of the
Republic of India. Not only hope but there is full faith that the country will
progress a lot under his leadership and will not lag behind in any way in front
of other nations of the world. A nation called the Sone ki Chidiya will be able
to regain its former glory.
