(1) Preamble - The Constitution of India states that India has a will be the President. The executive power of the Union shall be vested in the President and shall be exercised by him in accordance with the Constitution either by himself or by subordinate office bearers. Scholars like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Zakir Hussain, B. B. Giri, Radhakrishnan have decorated this post in the country. In the same series decorated the twelfth President of India.
(2) Biography APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931
in Dhanushkodi village of Rameswaram district of Tamil Nadu, South India. His
father's name was Zainuluddin. He was a fisherman by trade. Dr. Kalam's full
name is Abu Pakir Jainulandin Abdul Kalam. His early education took place at
Squartz High School in Ramanathapuram. Graduated in Science from St. Joseph's
College, Tiruchi. In 1957, he received a Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering
from MIT, Madras. In 1958, he was appointed Senior Assistant Scientist in
D.T.D&P (Air) and in the same year was appointed Senior Assistant in
Defense Research and Development Organization.
Dr. Kalam has also been honored from time to time for his
remarkable services. In this sequence, on November 25, 1997, for his
unprecedented work in the field of Indian defense and science, he was awarded
the country's highest honor Bharat Ratna. Similarly, in 1998, he was awarded
the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration. On November 25, 1999, he was
appointed as the Scientific Advisor to the Government of India. He remained in
this post till 2001. On July 25, 2002, he was appointed as the twelfth
President of India. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is unmarried. He is not only a
scientist but also a good poet. Two books written by Dr. Kalam have been
published. These include 'India 2020' and 'Wings of Fire in Autobiography'.
Even now Dr. Kalam stays awake till late night. He gets up early in the morning
for a walk and reads the Gita every day. He says, "The Gita is the
inspiration for my actions."
Dr. A. P. J., who holds an honorable place among the world's
eminent scientists. Abdul Kalam's name is taken with respect all over the
world. The credit of illuminating India's name in the field of missiles and
space goes to Dr. APJ Kalam. Dr. A. P. J. Kalam is a simple and religious
person in appearance and behavior. Being a true Muslim, they offer Namaz
regularly. He is also a devotee of Krishna. Dr. Kalam is synonymous with great
solitaire and simplicity. He never gave importance to name and money in his
life. They have sacrificed their happiness and interests in the true sense for
the progress of the country. If Dr Kalam wanted, he could have earned a lot of
money by going abroad but he took the risk of taking the country to scientific
heights. These qualities of his have made him the center of loyalty and hope of
the common man.
(3) Epilogue Dr. Abdul Kalam's term ended on July 24, 2007. Despite his personality being influential, he did not succeed in doing much due to the limitations of the constitution and his apolitical image. What he did as President was more influenced by his scientific personality. The country got the benefit of his being a great scientist. Our image has improved in many countries of the world.
