INDIA'S FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT 

(1) Preamble The country of Smt. Pratibha Patil, who had the distinction of being elected the first woman President in the 60-year history of independent India has special significance in politics. 

(2) Biography - Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil was born on 19th December, 1934 in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. His father's name was Narayan Rao. After studying M.A. from Jalgaon Mool Ji Jaitha College and law from Bombay's Law College, he started advocacy in Jalgaon. During this time she was also associated with social work. In 1965, he married Devi Singh Ransingh Shekhawat. His family life is full of happiness and prosperity. He has a daughter and a son. The ancestors of Devi Singh Ransingh Shekhawat were residents of Sikar district of Rajasthan and later settled in Jalgaon (Maharashtra). Smt. Pratibha Patil of the same family is famous as an experienced politician and administrator.

(3) Political life Smt. Pratibha Patil's life is as bright as the sun. She was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for five terms from 1962 to 1995. During this, she was a Minister of State in the Government of Maharashtra from 1967 to 1972 and a Cabinet Minister from 1972 to 1978. She took charge of many important ministries. From 1979 to 1980, she was the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Smt. Pratibha Patil once again adorned the post of Cabinet Minister in the Government of Maharashtra from 1982 to 1985. Smt. Pratibha Patil was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1985. She was the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha from 1986 to 1988. During this time she was also the chairman of the Committee of Privileges of Rajya Sabha and a member of the Business Advisory Committee. She was the President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee from 1988 to 1990. After this, in 1991, she was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time. On November 8, 2004, she increased the pride of women by becoming the first woman governor of Rajasthan. Smt. Pratibha Patil has been actively associated with the cooperative movement of Maharashtra. For working women in Mumbai and Delhi

She played an important role in setting up the hostel. Apart from this, the credit also goes to him for opening an engineering college in Jalgaon for centuries for neglected rural youth, cooperative bank for women and school for poor children in Maharashtra. She showed his amazing power by stopping the law related to conversion in Rajasthan.

It is a matter of great pleasure that in the 60th year of independence, for the first time, a woman President has been made. They should pay attention to the condition of women in the country. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that Smt. Pratibha Patil's victory is the victory of people who want to see the country united and progressing.

(4) Constitutional Status - Article 52 of the Constitution of India clearly states, "There shall be a President of India. The executive power of the Union shall be vested in the President and shall be exercised by him in accordance with the Constitution himself or with the cooperation of subordinate officers. " Thus the President of India is the constitutional head of the executive and all the work related to governance is done in his name. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar has expressed the position of the President of India in these words, "The President is the head of the nation, not the executive. He represents the nation, but does not rule the nation. He is the symbol of the nation, in the administration. Its place is like the ceremonial seal by which the decisions of the nation are declared."

(5) Epilogue With taking oath as the 13th President of the country, Smt. Pratibha Patil created a new history on July 25, 2007. She is the first woman to hold the highest office of the nation in the 60-year history of independent India. Chief Justice KG Balakrishna administered the oath of office to Smt. Pratibha Patil in the Central Hall of Parliament House. He was given a 21-gun salute. In his first address, he said that special efforts will be made for women empowerment. Women can play an important role in the spread of education in the country. For this, rural girls have to be made teachers, only then the darkness of ignorance can be removed from the country. He called for the participation of all sections of the society in the development of the country.
